Flower Frenzy

If, like me, you have a floral motif obsession, then you'll know there really is no cure for it. The best remedy is to completely indulge in it, no matter what form it takes (yes, everything in my wardrobe is floral).

When it comes to designing, my obsession has resulted in a rather large possession of Dover royalty-free floral design books. The CD ones are awesome, because then you don't have to drag out the dreaded scanner.

Amazon is a GREAT place to feed your addiction, and I've included a few of my personal favorites below. It's always a good idea when you see a Dover design book you like to grab it, because they tend to disappear fast.

If you'd like to see more Dover Design books, and other digital design resources, check out my new store http://www.digitaldesignbooks.com/ where I have partnered with Amazon to bring you some of the hippest digital design and photography books around!

Take a look at some of these amazing resources below! These books cover everything from how to start up your own crafting business, to how to license your artwork on all kinds of products.

Gypsy Chick Designs for Bo Bunny!

It's official! I have two new paper lines that will be coming out in January with Bo Bunny, one of my favorite paper companies!

While I can't tell any of the exciting details just yet ... I will give you a heads up when Bo Bunny release the details on their Bo Bunny Blog in just a few weeks!

If you happen to be at the Craft and Hobby Convention in Anaheim January 25-28, drop by the Bo Bunny booth and say hi and see the new products. The stall number is 1973.

New Release: French Garden Papers

Here I am indulging in my love for florals once again in this brand new paper set! I have my Grandmother and Mother to thank for that. Growing up, these two women were constantly making clothes and pillows for everyone in the family, and so I was surrounded by lots of beautiful floral fabrics. To this day when I open my wardrobe - it's all florals! I'm sure 'What Not to Wear' would have something to say about that ... but that's me ... a product of the hippie generation ... I am always so inspired by anything flowery! You can get this gorgeous paper set here at ScrapArtist for just $3

Published in 'Life Images' Magazine

I'm so excited to announce that one of my photographic portraits is to be published in 'Life Images' magazine. This magazine, put out by the incredible 'Stampington Company' features original photographs, accompanied by the photographers' journaling. You can learn more about the magazine here. The photo will be printed in the Winter Edition, due for release in January 2009. The magazine can be purchased from Barnes and Noble.
I shot this photo of my friend Kristen at her wedding last year, and texturised it with some of my digital scrapbook elements to create a dreamy, fantasy effect.

Using digital scrapbook papers to create texture in your photos.

I love the effect you can achieve by combining a soft textured digital scrapbook paper with a favorite photo! Check out this portrait above of my dear daughter that took me all of 5 minutes to create!

Here's how to create your own fantasy portrait
Choose a soft, dreamy scrapbook paper. I have some in my store at scrapartist.com, but I found a beautiful pack just perfect for texturising a photo here. Thanks Jenna Desai!

I placed the photo over the top of the paper, set the blend mode to 'soft light' and erased parts of the paper with a big soft edge brush set at a low opacity. I added one of my floral transparent overlays (get it here) and set the blend mode to 'screen'. I then added a name in a fancy text at the bottom.

You might need to experiment with the layer blend modes to see which one best suits your photo, but that's where the fun lies! You never quite know what you'll come up with, but if you play around you can achieve some amazing effects.

Feel free to make a donation via the Paypal button below if you got something out of this blog post! Thank you.

New Paper Pack: Summer Flowers

These pretty papers were a lot of fun to make! They combine watercolor paintings that I sat down and did with the kids, along with a few vintage floral elements. The results are quite pretty, as you can see and the colors are so fresh and dainty. I just printed them out onto watercolor paper and they look gorgeous! I think I'll frame them and hang them in my daughter's room. There you go ... scrap papers turned into home decor!

Get them here and here at my Scrap Artist store.
